Disinfection is essential to reduce and prevent disease transmission, especially in public places. Ozone is one of the most powerful oxidants found in nature. The mechanism of action of ozone is the oxidation and inactivation of viral receptors that block their reproduction. It thus rapidly neutralizes pathogens (especially the most resistant ones). It reconverts into oxygen very quickly leaving no residue, to the benefit of people and the environment. Ozone cannot be stored and transported like other industrial gases. It must be produced on site using devices called Ozone Generators that take oxygen from the air and convert it into ozone by means of electrical discharges. Ozone disinfection has been tested against SARS with optimal results.
